Before the tridosha theory of food let’s know the importance and origin of tridosha theory. The health-related science of Ayurveda says that nature and every living being in nature are made up of a combination of the five basic elements(Mahabhutas) which are fire, air, water, sky, and earth. The human body is also made of these 5 basic elements. But the status of the five Mahabhutas in the body of every human being is not found same. Due to that diversity, Ayurveda formulates the theory of 3 doshas. This is Vata, Pitta and Kapha. According to the name, they show the specific status of the five Mahabhutas in the body.

According to Ayurveda three doshas Vata , Pitta and Kpaha alos found in every food item. The food items also carry the characteristics of Tridosha. Food can increase or decrease Vata, pitta and kapha. Ayurveda believes that even in food items, the characteristics of the five great elements(Mahabhutas) are present. Food also have the ability to harm or Heal the body. The special thing is that this benefit or harm from the food will depend on the nature of the body’s own Dosha status.

According to Ayurveda, substances whose nature is more towards Vata dosha has cooling effect. Which means, after eating that food, the body gets coolness. But there are negative effects if Vata food eaten in excess quantity. The body increases the excess of Vata dosha suffers the problems of stiffness, pain and swelling in the body parts. That is why such people who already have Vata dosha physical nature. They should eat vata food in balanced quantity. The Vata food production increase in the summer season. Because in the summer season there is a need for more of these types of food items. For example, coconut water, melon, watermelon, cucumber, etc.

Foods containing pitta dosha controls the vata and kapha dosha in the body but can aggravate pitta dosha. If such persons who has Pitta dosha physical nature, should avoid pitta dosha. By Not doing this, there will be an excess of pitta dosha in his/her body and may have to face problems like nervousness, restlessness, heartburn, diarrhea. You can see these pitta food item throughout the year. Some examples are garlic, asafoetida, meat etc.

Foods loaded with the nature of Kapha dosha balance the excess of Vata dosha in the body.These type of food for Vata and Pitta body bur harmful for Kapha nature body. Such foods should be eaten very carefully if your body is already Kapha body, otherwise it will aggravate the already existing Kapha dosha in his body. Due to which the problems related to the presence of mucus and excess water in his body can increase. Some examples are Ghee, cheese.
